Bocca Nuova |
Hot clothing, the stove, soup and a little bread, we are ready for the night show. We prick right towards the small valley, the projecting ledge on the South-western Southern peak of Bocca Nuova. We saw that the bombs did not fall on this side, and that we must have a beautiful sight on the two cones from here. We arrive in sweat and panting. The next time, we will go in zigzag!

Here, well, it would be
better that you came to see yourself. These few
photographs will be able only to give you a small idea of
the spectacle... |

The eastern mouth
consists of three vents
The small one spits of vapor puffs from time to time, and blue-green flames when the main vent strongly erupt.
The vent no2, the main one, often spits a powerful vertical jet (all 5 mn).
Mouth 3, not very visible, more rarely spits (all 20-30 mn) a jet more widened and directed towards the eastern wall.
While observing, a stronger explosion reveals a circular crack at middle height of the cone, perhaps announcing a nearest collapse of this one (in dashes on the sketch).
